GEI - Gruppo Economisti d’Impresa (Association of Business Economists)

Established in 1977, GEI is a non-profit Association bringing together economists who work in companies, entrepreneurial associations, R&D centers,   and  Public institutions.

GEI promotes and develops studies and public seminars on economic policy, business economy and the business cycle.

GEI is based on the participation of more than one hundred members, sharing a strong commitment in studying economic scenarios and enhancing the skills of business economists in Italy. GEI members are researchers, entrepreneurs, managers, consultants, and top executives of leading Italian organizations.

All  the members are willing to contribute to the public debate about Italian and EU economies, on the basis of their professional experience.

Main current initiatives

1)      The GEI Economic Observatory

Set up 25 years ago, the GEI Economic Observatory brings together GEI economists 4 times a year to review the economic outlook of Italy, by providing comments, data and forecasts about the main economic variables.  GEI publishes an executive summary of the meeting on economic newspapers and on the GEI website.

2)      Round Table on Industrial Policy in memory of Franco Momigliano

Each year, GEI organizes the Round Table on Industrial Policy in memory of Franco Momigliano, an leading Italian professor of industrial economics and founding member of GEI. The last Round Tables have dealt with the following topics: Italian political economics in the 2000s, Italian labor market, the utilities sector in Italy, etc. 

3)      Festival of Economics in Trento 

In the last ten years, GEI has participated in the Festival of Economics in Trento by organizing  a conference (http://2011.festivaleconomia.eu/en).

The last conferences at Festival of Economics have addressed various issues, such as the “Economy of the North African Countries”, “Leverage buyout and private equity in Italy”, “The economic crisis in Italy”, etc. 

4)      GEI Working Groups

In 2010 GEI set up some working groups in order to gather together GEI members and external economists to discuss specific topics, such as local economies and public utilities in Italy. 

5)      GEI website

The GEI website presents all the reports produced by GEI, such as presentations at seminars, the results of the GEI Observatory, the personal publications of members, some information about GEI community, and the diffusion of members’ initiatives.

The newsletter of the GEI website is sent out to a wide list of economists (about 2,000), working in different kinds of organizations.
